No homework in advance on visiting a small European city? No problem at all…

First, ask for directions and head to the main square of the old town. Then, walk following your instinct! Pretty simple… Well that was my case anyway and my course of action. Last August I had in my disposal 36 hours on my own before joining a group for a Dalmatian Tour.

I had, already, been on the go when I decided to spend them in Zagreb. To me, time was enough, not only to take a look of all major attractions but, also, to enjoy spending some leisure time eating, drinking and strolling.

Getting around

The main  square, I was talking about, well it is named Trg Bana Jospa Jelacica (Jelacic Square) and splits the town in the Upper (Gonji) and the Lower (Donji) part. From that point I took a map in hard copy and I started to explore every single alley across my way.

To keep it short, don’t forget to visit amongst others the Cathedral, St Mark’s Church, Kamenita Vrata (Old Town Gate) and to walk along the city parks and open markets. Moreover, if you have additional time, visit Jarun Lake. The rest of my time was spent eating a delicious goat burger at Otto y Frank, brunch at Kava Tapa and ice- cream at Vincek and having coffee  and beer breaks.
