An open invitation to Munich is anyhow tempting; Christmas holidays is, also, perfect time to cash it out… Two years ago we decided to pay a visit to our friends who have been permanent residents of Germany for some years now.

Munich, Germany

Munich in a few words

Munich, is located in the southern part of Germany and lies in the northen Bavarian Alps. The city “by the monks” listed high in quality of living rankings and it is considered as alpha city. We wandered around the historic centre inside the remaining three gates of medieval fortification and saw the time changing in front of New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) in Marienplatz. We were also captivated by the Christmas market (Weihnachtsmärkte)  and spent some time through the shopping malls.

Trip and accomodation

We flew with Air China from Athens direct to Munich in a fairly cheap fair (around 140€ per person) and we were very satisfied with our choice. Our friends were waiting for us at the airport so I cannot say anything about its connectivity to the city centre. Their home located just outside from the city in a small and quiet town called Bad Aibling. Small, perhaps, but had it all; beautiful scenery and parks to enjoy your walks, a couple of cafeterias to have a breakfast and your morning coffee and therme to relax.

Eating out

Well, we had delicious brunches in Grassinger Cafe & Restaurant and Giuseppe E Amici; reserve a table because both places are really crowded. We lunched in a splendid place, out in the fields, called Aschbacher Hof, twice in  HANS IM GLÜCK and tasted some goodies in the open Christmas market. Last, but not least, I  strongly reccommend our friends’ family restaurant called “Dionysos“!
