You are the guy that you really enjoy multi activity breakouts. You like, also, being a pioneer, to get on virgin grounds. Almopia province is the right place for you, then. There is no place like home, they say; I say they are definitely right. I will do my best, though, not to be too subjective. Let me be your white rabbit and follow me to… adventureland!

Almopia

Almopia region is located in Pella, in northern Greece. Geologically is a basin bound by Mt. Voras, Mt Pinovo & Mt. Jena. The place has some domestic popularity mainly due to the thermal springs of Pozar. But publicity is not always a driver.

Activities

Hiking: Getting around on existing paths mainly used by timberjacks and hunters. Suggested ones, through Black Forest (as locals call it) up to Pozar or from Aetochori up to Pinovo peak.

Mountain/ Trail biking: Many existing mountain access trails which run along the mountain sides surround Almopia; old access roads unsealed and rough whilst being elevated high above the basin. The terrain caters for all levels of rider with a dominance of suitable entry level terrain.

Road/ Touring biking: Low traffic volume provincial roads with relatively flat agricultural terrain all along the basin are ideal for short distanced biking trips.

Rock climbing/ Boulder: Head to Loutraki or Pinovo respectively to spend some time on the rock. Grades up to 7b, perfect for beginners, in an amazing scenery. Believe it or not local club has some of best young sports climbers in Greece.

Ski Alpine/ Mountaineering or Touring: Either head to Mt Voras ski center (40′ drive) or take advantage the rest surrounding peaks to enjoy during the  winter months.

Tennis: You can find open courts in three different places nearby. Courts might be busy though during summer time since a lot of young people practise daily.

Off road driving: If you are keen on motorsports there are plenty of routes in the area to drive or ride.

What else is there

Visit the waterfalls, the old city of Edessa and Agios Athanasios traditional village.

End your day enjoying the thermal springs; revitalising as it sounds.

Dine in some of the best greek taverns (honestly, I have been all over the country so far). Suggested ones “Kokkino Piperi”, “Dionysos”, “Tavernaki tis Mpoumpous” and “Ellinon Yevsis”. Nevertheless, it will be really hard to be disappointed on that sector; the majority of restaurants are above average.

Get your coffee or drink in Aridea. You are going to have some choices which are beyond the term decent! “Coup”, “Irish Pub”, “Aeriko” and “Blue Notte” are only few of them…

Important notice: I have to emphasise on “Unexploited”. That means you have to make your own research on routes or make a contact with some locals; I could be your middle man for the second happily.
