Budapest team (two couples and the little princess) decided to hit again; Amsterdam in Netherlands was our destination this time, in February 2017. It was second time for me visiting the city,- the first one was a decade ago in a business trip. I had strong memories from back then and I always had an eager to return. I believe that it is the multicultural atmosphere and the feeling of freedom that got me hooked. People behave in an extremely polite and discreet manner; thus, you feel welcome but always within your comfort zone.
Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.- J. Green
Travelling
We had booked our tickets with Transavia couple months before, on direct flight from Athens, in a quite affordable price (well under 200€ per person). Schiphol airport is pretty near to the city with frequent connection to the city centre.
Where to stay
Museumquarter is the best by far place to stay, in my point of view. Very quiet but central neighbourhood, almost close to everything. Max Brown, our hotel, was nonetheless a great choice and it is strongly suggested.
What to eat
Cuisine-wise you are in a modern Babel of tastes; you have unlimited options. To my taste, some worth-visiting places are Hard Rock Cafe, Wok to Walk and In De Buurt Cafe and Restaurant,- by far the best burger I have ever tasted! I would also recommend to have a Cheese Tasting Experience.
What to do
Well, to my mind, Amsterdam is better either to be walked or biked. Alternatively you may use the tram from time to time. Amongst others we did visit Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, EYE Filmmuseum and MadamTussauds. We did wander, also, around Vondelpark, The Nine Streets, Red Light Discrict, Bloemenmarkt and Jordaan neighbourhood. We had a canal cruise, too. Moreover, we enjoyed the view on A’DAM Lookout and the braver ones swung over the edge. Additionally, on my previous trip I visited ARTIS Zoo and Efteling theme park. Last but not least, we had great discounts on most of the aforementioned by Booking.com.
