Two months back, it happened to spend a couple of days near Kyllini, Peloponnese for business. I had some free time though and I did a little research on spending it efficiently. So, I did visit Chlemoutsi Castle and Ancient Elis.

Chlemoutsi Castle, Elia, Greece

Chlemoutsi Castle

The castle is in Castle (“Kastro” in Greek), a small village in northwest Peloponnese. Located at the top of the one and only hill of the surrounding area, has a unique panoramic view. Chlemoutsi is a misspelled translation of the original name Clermont. It was built on the early 13th century by Geoffrey I of Villehardouin and restoration works are on progress for the moment being. Lack of publicity, is totally unfair to me.

Ancient Elis

Second and last stop, just a few minutes drive away was Ancient Elis. The area was inhabited from the Middle Palaeolithic Era (120.000!!!) till the 7th century AD. The archaeological site is wide and take your time while walking around the sightseeings. Landmark of the site is the ancient theatre stage. Few kilometres away, there is the new Museum. Building itself is outstanding but exhibits are unfortunately really few. Needless to say that I was the only visitor…
