Somehow, someday of August found myself in that hardship of having to decide where to spend one day between Aosta and Zagreb (yes, I know  you are already overwhelmed by rivers of sympathy!).

Visiting Venice was long before in my bucket list; it was about time to make it happen.

Getting there…

I used the FlixBus service to get there with a few hours stop in Milan; my first experience with the company. Easy to book and very comfort ride (Free WiFi and USB chargers available on board. Yet, although my first ride was punctual, my second was almost an hour late. Moreover, on my way out the following day somehow I missed my ride even if I was on the proper spot half an hour in advance. Anyway, I alter my schedule and company offered me a voucher of my ticket price.

Finding a place to sleep could be a bit expensive but there is an alternative called Mestre. It’s only 8km away and there is quite frequent direct bus line to the center. I would recommended it only for a short stay as a solo traveler since neighborhood may be considered slightly decadence according, of course, to my personal standards. My stay was in Easy Venice Rooms; satisfied but not thrilled!

 Get around

“When I went to Venice, I discovered that my dream had become- incredibly, but quite simply- my address.” Marcel Proust

Few hours for sight seeing requires for sure a fast walking pace and to set a route master plan in mind. Mine had been a counterclockwise one starting from and ending to Piazzale Roma exploring in sequence the districts of Santa Croce, San Polo, Dorsoduro, San Marco, Castello and Cannaregio.

Wander and be sure that you will find something interesting in each alley and every canal.

I would suggest to set major attractions as checkpoints on your way. If your orientation skills are above average you would be probably fine only with a map in hard copy. Otherwise, use your GPS! It’s very likely to get lost on the way.

To sum up with. I had a very ideal image of Venice in my mind and, of course, great expectations. To be honest I was slightly disappointed but probably because of my fault. I made the visit on one of the hottest summerday with tons of other fellow tourists around. My romantic aspect didn’t include neither of them.
