Eagering to get out of the city after Covid-19 lockdown, we took a day trip in Bolboci and Scropoasa Lakes in Mt Bucegi. A bit of road tripping, hiking and off road driving was what we all needed. Weather was not perfect especially for late May but we couldn’t allow it to be a setback for us.

Cascada 7 Izvoare
After almost two hours drive from Bucharest and passing through Sinaia we reached the waterfall of Seven Springs (7 Izvoare). Named also as the “source of immortality” by Nicolae Ceausescu. According to specialists, water has level of zero bacteria due to either the stream passes through a magnetic field, anomalies of this kind being discovered in the area, or it crosses a silver deposit that purifies the water.

Lake Scropoasa
Scoproasa Lake is an artificial lake built in 1929 in order to supply the Dobresti hydroelectric power plant, one of the oldest in Romania, built in 1936, located at almost 1200 meters altitude. We took a short and easy hike around the lake, well worth it. There is a trail connecting the two lakes and that had been our original plan but we let it go due to low temperatures. Next time, perhaps.

Lake Bolboci
Another artificial lake, in the altitude of 1400 meters, is Bolboci formed by a dam built in 1988. Also known as the Sea of Bucegi, Bolboci Lake along with the tall trees and the canyon set a unique landscape.
On the lake shore there is Bolboci Chalet, built in 1928 but once again we have been unlucky and it was closed.
